241 DEAD AND 1 SURVIVED IN A PLANE CRASH

13th June, Ahmedabad:

One of the worst and most devastating plane crashes occurred in Ahmedabad yesterday at about 1:39 p.m. Air India Flight A 1 -171 a boeing 787 - 8 Dreamliner aircraft crashed soon after take off from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport bound for London Gatwick.The aircraft had reached around 625 feet before losing altitude and issuing a Mayday call.It hit B.J Medical college hostel while students and doctors were having lunch.It erupted into massive fireball and thick plumes of smoke.

Of the 242 people on board, 230 passengers and 12 crew members perished and one British passenger miraculously survived.One of the people who died was former Gujarat's Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

The CRPF,NDRF,Indian Army and local people were involved .They recovered 200 bodies and transported numerous injured to nearby hospital.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the activation of the Ram Air turbine used when both engines failed raising doubts about engine performance during takeoff.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep condolences and visited the hospital where the survived was admitted. Home Minister Amit Shah and Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu visited the site.The TaTa Group chairman announced Rs. 1 crore to the kin of each killed .He also assured the people of all help.
