A HISTORIC MISSION CHANDRYAN-3
Sriharikota, August 24, 2023:
India was marked as the first country to reach the
lunar south pole region and fourth country to land a spacecraft on the moon
after Russia the USA and China when The
Chandrayaan -3 lander module touched down on the lunar surface on Wednesday. It
was India’s 3rd moon mission at soft-landing on the lunar surface
after the Chandrayan-2 which was failed in 2019.
This mission was developed by the ISRO. It cost about
Rs. 615 crore or less than 75 million dollars. It was launched at 2:35 p.m on
14 July from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota , Andhra Pradesh. Lander
is expected to release the six wheeled rover that is programmed to explore the
lunar terrain near landing sight which is an unexplored region of the moon .
The whole country watched the livestream descent
sequence on smartphones and televisions .Scientists and Officials clapped
,cheered and hugged each other as the spacecraft landed .Prime Minister
Narendra Modi tweeted that Chandrayaan
-3 scripted a new chapter in world’s space history. The landing drew applause
from the NASA and ESA and they provided
support . “ This is an unexplored area of the moon”, said Anil Bharadwaj,
director of the Physical Research Laboratory , Ahmedabad , an ISRO centre.
